FAFSA information
To file for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) go to
First time users must apply for a PIN for both student and parent. Keep this number! It can be used in future years for all FAFSA applications.
Go to Browse for Help to find the FAFSA worksheet. Fill this out and it will correlate with the questions on the application.
Documents needed: Social Security number, W-2 for earned income (if any), previous/current year income tax return (if any), Parents' previous/current year income tax return, bank statements, business & investment records, permanent alien resident card if not a resident.
The Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) number indicates how much the family is expected to contribute based on information given.
FAFSAs can be filled out as early as January and should be filled out by March 15th for most universities. Universities require a FAFSA to be on file every year for a student to be eligible for scholarships with their institution.
